I am getting a guitar for Christmas and I don't know which type of guitar to get. Help?Which guitar is easier to play for a beginner acoustic or electric/?
Hi Teja:
Paul makes a very good point in his answer in regards to how well the guitar is set up. Assuming the electric and the acoustic have proper set ups, and in a specific price range... we shall use 300 bucks as a reference here.... the electric will be MUCH easier to play.
As far as which to get..... get the guitar YOU have the most interest in learning... not what someone tells you needs to be played first. That used to be a theory years ago.... a beginner should start on acoustic first... then go to electric. That is so totally untrue. Ive played music a heck of a long time... 45+ years, and have done some teaching along the way on piano, guitar, and bass. Ive seen time and time again to where a student is forced into playing an instrument because someone says....';You need to learn this first..'; and that instrument just sits and winds up being a dust collector because they have absolutely no desire to play that instrument. An instrument that is willingly chosen by the student MOST of the time gets played more, and the student progresses much faster, and usually winds up learning another along the way. I started on Piano at 4..... still play it.. and have learned proficiently several more since then.
I will give you some pros and cons on each instrument. The acoustic is usually harder on the hands to play. Also, I feel you are a little more restricted on what you can play with an acoustic. In turn, the acoustic is all you need.... no amps, cords that will eventually need replaced, and is a bit more portable than an electric, as no amp is needed. You can also play an acoustic during a storm that has knocked the power out! HA.. do that with an electric!
An electric will be easier on the fingers, more styles of music can be played on it.....and... on EITHER one.. you still learn chords, notes, strumming techniques, finger picking techniques, and how to read music.
Once youve made YOUR decision.... I recommend taking an experienced player to make your first purchase. He/she will know what to look for. Things such as how well the frets are set and dressed in the neck, how straight the neck is, any hardware issues, which is usually minor... are there any loose tuning keys, if on an electric.. are the volume and tone controls sloppy and loose. These things on most entry level guitars are very important, and quality is hit and miss on lower budget guitars. Ive seen some that have been totally unplayable that are brand new due to these things. Ive also seen some that are very good playing instruments that will last a lifetime if taken care of.
Hope this has helped.... and good luck. Which guitar is easier to play for a beginner acoustic or electric/?
I have been playing guitar for two years and all of my guitar teachers have said that you should always begin learning the acoustic guitar. Even though the acoustic will be more painful(for your fingers)to play, once your fingers have hardened the electric guitar will be no problem to learn. Electric guitar is not painful to play but you should strengthen your fingers before playing it.
Actually that depends on the guitar. An electric guitar that is poorly set up can be harder to play than an acoustic guitar that has heavier gauge strings. An electric guitar requires an amplifier, an acoustic guitar does not. If you want to master the guitar, take classical guitar lessons.
Don't decide by which one is easier - decide by asking yourself which one you'd rather play. Look at the music you enjoy and ask yourself if it's played on an acoustic or electric. Both types are easy enough to learn on so the choice is yours.
i have both...the electric is trillions of times easier...you wont nodice this too much untill you do bends and stuff like that
the accoustics strings and bridge are set where the strigns are tighter
this makes them harder to press down by a lot
acoustic..no doubt.
