all in title. Everylittle bit of advice from race to what to do off the bat will help. =]Anyone got any tips for a beginner world of warcraft player?
Ehm. Well ok; Two factions, Horde of Alliance. Alliance are your sorta Lord of the rings stylyl elves and humans and dwarves. While the horde is your orcs, minotaur (tauren) and rastifarian trolls.

Lots of different classes. Though they all fit into certain catagories. In the game, to achieve the hardest things, you have to team up with people in 'parties'. In parties of 5, you tend to have 3 types of people. The tank; defends other people by keeping attacking monsters attacking him. The damage dealers; help a group by doing as much damage as quickly as possible to the monsters that are attacking the tank. And finally the healer, a healer has spells and abilities that replenishes others health bars. Parties tend to have one tank, 3 damage dealers, 1 healer. Tanks tend to be warriors, paladins, druids or death knights. Healers could include; shaman, priests, druids, paladins. And damage dealers could include any class.

You may note that some lists include more than one class. Thats because these classes are known as hybrids. They can fullfil two rolls. However, they must be talented for it. To explain. Once past level ten, you will recieve one 'talent point' everytime you level. These talent points can be spentr in a table (press N). This table has three tabs, or talent trees. These determine the area in which your character has specialized. For example; a druid who has spent lots of talent points in 'feral' makes a suitable tank, while a druid spending talent points in 'restoration' makes them a suitable healer.

2 types of offensive capabilities. Spells. Its all in the name, depending on the class you chose, youl shoot damaging bolts, or hurtful rays etc at an enemy, or even cast regenerative 'healing' spells.

Or Melle. Melle is hitting stuff. With an axe, with a pitchfork etc.

Very few classes tend to be both. One of the easiest mistakes is hitting things with a stick as a spell caster.

When you start WoW most things will be explained to you in the little tutorials. However, it never hurts to google 'how to play a mage' (if mage is your chosen class) for hints and tips.
