I want to buy a handgun which is less than 250. It does not have to be the most powerful but something that would be good to learn on at the shooting range. I want it for home protection. I have a shot a .357 sig at the range once. I would like to have a pistol but any ideas would be appericiated. thanks in advanceWhat would be a good handgun for a beginner?
.22's are good for starting and getting used to light recoil, but aren't very practical for home protect. Just rent one, or a .357 (which would be effective for home protection) at the range, and them move up to a 9mm or .45ACP.
And GLOCKs are ';the best handguns of all time';? Please. They're of fine quality, but generalizing a brand is shouting ';All I can do is name the generic model police use.'; If I had to choose any pistol for multiple uses, it would be an M1911A1. Used by the US military for over 70 years, and is basically the AK-47 of the handgun world (as far as durability goes). You can't take a GLOCK through a Vietnamese marsh and expect it to be in good working condition afterwards.
As far as home protection goes, stick with a .357 if you chose a revolver, or a GLOCK or Beretta chambered in 9mm or .45. A 9mm is slightly larger, but GLOCKs and Berettas can handle the recoil of the round better than a 1911. Revolvers are generally cheaper, but unless it's a double action, won't be of much use fending off an attacker/home invader with a semi automatic firearm. What would be a good handgun for a beginner?
The best handgun of all time is a GLOCK. It will be more that $250, maybe about $400. Choose a .40 or even a 9mm. Point and shoot, even if its been buried in sand. Good Luck and Best Wishes.
A a 9 millimeter hand gun is a good gun to start out with
